Health commitment
Bakers Delight supports a healthy lifestyle through a broad range of products catering towards the trend towards healthy living. From Chia Bread with whole chia seeds, to the Traditional White Block Loaf, wholegrain range including Cape Seed with nine grains and seeds, to Bakers Delight’s Hi-Fibre Lo-GI white bread with the lowest GI rating of any white bread in Australia.
Bakers Delight’s health commitment can be demonstrated through a range of product related health attributes. Not to mention promotion of a healthy lifestyle both in bakeries and out in the community.
Additives
- Where possible, Bakers Delight will avoid using artificial colours and flavours and use natural alternatives.
- Where possible, Bakers Delight will avoid using preservatives and increase the number of products that are free from all preservatives.
- Bakers Delight will not use preservative 282 in any products.
- Bakers Delight wholegrain products use 100% wholemeal flour.
Salt
- Bakers Delight is committed to providing lower salt options to consumers.
Salt level is considered when developing new products from a functional, taste and health perspective.
- Standard salt has been replaced with iodised salt in all Bakers Delight bakeries in July 2009, in readiness for September 2009 mandate.
Nutrient values
- Actively investigate opportunities to enhance the nutritional value of bakery products.
Communications
- Continue to refine and review the Bakers Delight health symbols to enable customers to easily identify the health credentials of Bakers Delight products therefore assisting with appropriate product choices.
- Continue to provide consumers with accurate nutrition and health related information on the Bakers Delight product range
Portion sizes
- Consider appropriate portion sizes of sweet and savoury snack items when developing new products.
Folate
- Bakers Delight was a leader in the industry in its voluntary fortification of folate to bread, prior to the 2009 mandate.
